The news is full of stories about rural hospitals closing across the country. In most small communities the hospital is a major employer, so the closures not only impact local healthcare for the community, many people lose their jobs. It’s a sad story, but it isn’t ours.

For over 30 years WHA has been the hub for members to collaborate to improve rural healthcare. From collaborative program development to save money and improve efficiencies, to sharing resources like policies, processes, and specialists, WHA members thrive by helping each other. Our Peer Networks make up the heart of the organization. WHA staff is continually amazed by the level of collaboration and sharing members demonstrate during their meetings.

WHA members are a great example of a success story for rural healthcare. Imagine the original founding members deciding to purchase a collection agency together to help their bottom line. Today that company, Healthcare Management, LLC has grown to provide a full slate of revenue cycle services housing over 90 employees and has collected over $298 million. Several years later, they came together again and formed another company, the Community Care Alliance, focused on engaging providers, lowering the cost of care, and improving health outcomes to support members in the transition from volume to value. The result? They saved CMS over $11 million by collaborating together to create healthier communities. Innovation at its best!

Our story needs to be told! Your story needs to be told! WHA members lead the charge on not only surviving but changing the landscape of rural healthcare and thriving in the communities they call home.

Join us at WHAAS 2020 and share your story as we Reinvent Rural Healthcare together.
