On May 8th, we took part in a mass casualty incident (MCI) drill, in collaboration with Telluride Airport and Telluride Fire and EMS. This exercise provided a vital training opportunity for our team to refine their emergency response skills, which we hope to never use in a real situation.

The Regional Medical Center Trauma team at San Luis Valley Health (SLVH) is proud to announce their re-certification as a Level III trauma center for three more years. They passed the survey, conducted by Dr. Krista Turner, General Surgeon from The Medical Center of Aurora, Level II facility, Dr. David Richards ED physician from Denver Health, Level I facility, and Steve Clayton RN, Trauma Nurse Coordinator from Swedish Medical Center, Level I facility with no deficiencies on April 24, 2024.

San Luis Valley Health (SLVH) is proud to announce the addition of Coronary Calcium Scoring as a new service line in the Imaging & Radiology Services department at the Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

Gunnison Valley Health (GVH) announced that Shandy Kibler, GVH Senior Care Center Administrator, was named Administrator of the Year by the Colorado Activity Professionals’ Association (CAPA). According to CAPA, the award is presented to an administrator who has consistently given support to activities in a facility, has supported the promotion of a better quality of life for the residents, supported continuing education and the professionalism of the activity professional in his/her facility and demonstrated an understanding of the value of activities in the improvement of the quality of life for residents.

Southwest Memorial Hospital nurse Lil Bostrom, 80, was honored by her colleagues Monday at the beginning of Nurse Appreciation Week with the announcement that an operating room would be dedicated to her.

HopeWest is one of 11 grief-centered organizations selected by Judi’s House/JAG Institute to participate in the 2024 Childhood Bereavement Changemaker program to build capacity for data collection and program evaluation through a series of trainings, workshops, and collaborative learning sessions.

The National Rural Health Association (NRHA) has announced the 20 highest-ranked prospective payment system (PPS) hospitals in the country based on an evaluation by the Chartis Center for Rural Health. The hospitals are identified using the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX™, the most comprehensive and objective assessment of rural PPS hospital performance. These hospitals will be recognized May 9 during NRHA’s Annual Rural Health Conference in New Orleans, La.

When the Blue Mesa bridge shut down, the hospital shifted into disaster management mode, figuring out how to deliver critical care to cancer and kidney patients and how to re-route staffers and basic supplies that come over from Montrose.
